What Dailies is
Dailies keeps track of daily puzzles. Most of them live on other people’s websites: Dailies links out to them, reads the share text you bring back, keeps your streaks and statistics, and scores weekly competitions between friends. It does not host, copy or embed those puzzles.
Those games belong to their publishers, and their names are used here only to identify them. Dailies is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to The New York Times, LinkedIn, The Atlantic, Merriam-Webster or any other outside publisher. Playing one of their games happens on the publisher’s site under its own terms.
A few games are different. Helvetica Labs makes some itself, Landmarkr among them, and anyone can create a game on Dailies. Those games can be played inside Dailies and report your result to it directly, with no share text to paste.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to have an account.
- Give a working email address; it is how you recover the account.
- Keep your password and API tokens to yourself. Anything logged with your tokens counts as you. Revoke a token under Settings the moment you suspect it has leaked.
- Your username appears on your public profile and on group standings, so choose one you are happy for others to see. Usernames that impersonate someone or are offensive can be changed by us.
- You can stop using Dailies at any time and ask for the account to be deleted, as described in the privacy policy.
Your results and content
The share texts, scores, group names and game definitions you put into Dailies remain yours. You give Helvetica Labs permission to store them, parse them, and show them to you, to your groups and on your public profile, as the privacy policy describes, for as long as your account exists. That permission ends when the content or the account is deleted, apart from copies in any backups, which expire in the normal course of things.
Do not put in anything you have no right to share, and do not paste other people’s personal information.
Fair play
Groups only work if a logged result is a real result. Log your own solves, on the day you solved them, once. Do not fabricate share text, edit it to improve a score, or log by hand something you did not play. We may remove results, and in persistent cases accounts, that break this. Group owners can remove members from their own groups for any reason and the invite link will not let them back in.
Acceptable use
Do not:
- Probe, overload or attack the service, or use the API beyond its documented purpose of logging your own results.
- Collect other people’s results or profile data in bulk.
- Use Dailies, its browser extension or its phone app in a way that breaks a game publisher’s terms. The extension only presses the game’s own Share button for you; if a site does not allow that, do not use it there.
- Use group names, game names or usernames to harass, deceive or impersonate.
Games you create
If you add a game to Dailies, you are responsible for it and for the website it runs on: that you have the right to publish it, that it works, and that it treats the people who play it properly. Through the SDK a game may report a player’s result for that game and nothing else. We can remove a game that breaks these terms, does not work, or gets in the way of the service.
The service itself
Dailies is provided free and as it is. We try to keep it running and to keep your data safe, but we cannot promise it will always be available, that every share format will always be recognised, or that a streak will never be lost to a bug. Features may change or be withdrawn; if the whole service is going to shut down, we will say so on the site well before, so you can copy out what you want to keep.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Helvetica Labs is not liable for any loss arising from your use of Dailies, including lost results, streaks or standings. Nothing in these terms takes away rights the law gives you that cannot be waived.
Suspension
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why unless doing so would make an abuse problem worse. You can ask us to reconsider by email.
Changes to these terms
The date at the top shows when these terms last changed. A change that matters to you, such as a new rule or a narrower promise, is announced on the site before it takes effect. Carrying on using Dailies after that means you accept the new version; if you do not, stop using it and ask for your account to be deleted.
